José Rego
Cidade dos Lobos EP

From self-discovery and introspection to the contrast between the city and nature, this is how José Rego, composer and guitarist based in Lisbon, makes his solo debut with "Cidade dos Lobos" (City of Wolves) EP. At its core, it is grounded in his acoustic guitar, but it presents itself as much more than that. A dialogue between the nylon-string guitar that produces sound and the machine that manipulates its shapes. It embodies the pursuit of harmony between the synthetic and the natural, the machine and the organism, and explores the limit of the classic instrument, and the infinite colours that the machine can produce. Inspired by experiences across the rural and the urban presence of the artist, as well as interactions in the world of Portuguese traditional music, Rego delivers a 30 minute true sensorial experience. 6 tracks that present the listener with a rare chance to rediscover memories and journey through daydreams through the nostalgia of the plucking strings of an acoustic guitar and the intricate textures of electroacoustic composition.
"These are compositions made by the people I encounter in my daily life, between bus journeys and the city lights during long nights in Lisbon and Alentejo. It ranges from the strident sound of the tram in Largo do Camões to the aggressive, trembling, and natural sound of the waterfalls at Pulo do Lobo. From Alentejo’s tradicional choral singing to Saturday demonstrations. From the urgency of wanting to explode while looking at the Roman bridges that quell my restlessness."
Produced and engineered by João Galvão and José Assunção for SABES and released by Palmtown Records in partnership with Where The Music Meets this is a project that is interdisciplinary and explores the convergence of the arts. Rego presents a live show experience alongside Electroacoustic performer João Galvão and the eclectic drummer and percussionist Pedro Almeida. He continually seeks to share stages with performers such as visual artists, poets, dancers, sound engineers, or lighting technicians.
